Savo Consortium for Education (Sakky) has chosen YIT to develop Sakky’s new premises in Kuopio’s Savilahti district. The project will be implemented as a cooperative project management contract, with the development phase starting at the beginning of 2019. Construction will begin in autumn 2019 and be completed in spring 2023. The total value of the project is approximately EUR 60 million. The project will be booked in the order backlog after signing the implementation phase contract eventually in October 2019.

Sakky is looking to centralise its operations in Kuopio at a single location and ensure modern learning environments for thousands of students for decades to come. The premises will consist of about 26,000 square metres spread out over three connected buildings. The premises will include various teaching and office facilities as well as a restaurant world complete with a teaching kitchen. Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification will be sought for the building, and it will satisfy the Healthy Building criteria set out by the Finnish Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate.

YIT has extensive experience of cooperative contracts and the implementation of projects involving school buildings. To date, YIT has built six schools in Kuopio using the life-cycle model: the Karttula, Jynkä, Martti Ahtisaari, Päiväranta, Rajala and Pohjantie schools. The seventh, Hiltula school, will be completed in 2019.

Sakky is a regional multidisciplinary provider of education services for young people and adults as well as a developer of working life. The joint municipal board organises basic vocational training, further vocational training, apprenticeship training, vocational labour market training and staff training in all fields of education as well as upper secondary school education and working life development projects.
