YIT has signed an agreement with Boliden on the expansion of a water basin in Gällivare, Nothern Sweden

YIT CORPORATION Press release July 9, 2018, at 9 a.m.

YIT and Boliden have signed an agreement on the expansion of a water basin to ensure future operation of a copper mine in Gällivare, Aitik, in Northern Sweden.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in May 2018 and will be completed in November 2020. The parties have agreed that the transaction value will not be published.

Under 3 years, YIT will build basins for water processing and move about 5 million m3 of soil and rock material. The project includes large mass displacement in a short period of time and dam construction with high quality requirements. YIT is responsible for construction management and quality assurance of the project. The project will ensure continued mining operations for the customer.

The project will be included in the order backlog in the third quarter of the year.

”We are looking forward to work together with Boliden again, now in a new project focusing on the dam constructions. We will benefit from our experience within the area and as a part of an international corporation, we can work flexibly and offer cost effective and sustainable solutions through right competence, innovations and the latest technique,” says Lars Stendius, YIT´s Senior Vice President of Infrastructure projects in Sweden.

Boliden Aitik is one of the largest copper mines in Europe.
