YIT DELIVERS BUILDING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY TO URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENT AUTHORITY’S BUILDING IN HAMBURG, GERMANY

YIT Germany GmbH has secured a contract according to which the company will deliver technical building services totalling EUR 8 million to Urban Development and Environment Authority’s (BSU) new building in Hamburg.

YIT will begin working on the office building in the Hamburg district of Willhelmsburg in September, providing services in the areas of heating, cooling, ventilation and sanitary technology, sprinklers, and building automation. The end result will be an about 55-meter high, 13-story high-rise and two five-story wings. The entire complex will feature a gross floor area of around 61,000 m2 and provide enough space to accommodate the ca. 1,400 BSU employees.

Two heat pumps, each with an output of 305 kW, will be responsible for heating the building, while chiller waste heat will be used to heat water. A geothermal system will provide passive cooling, and highly efficient heat recovery systems and 14 ventilation and air-conditioning systems with a total air capacity of 150,000 m3/h will provide for a pleasant climate. It will be possible to adjust the temperature in the conference area separately thanks to individual room regulation. Cisterns will collect rainwater to be used as raw water. The atriums, which will be open to the general public, will be equipped with 1,400 sprinklers.

All technical building installations are designed to reduce energy consumption and reliance on resources. In this way, technical building specialist YIT is making a considerable contribution to fulfilling the sustainability criteria set out by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The project has achieved DGNB Gold pre-certification, and the architectural firm, Sauerbruch Hutton, is also aiming for final DGNB Gold certification following completion.

The new Urban Development and Environment Authority (BSU) building will take part in building exhibition IBA Hamburg (Internationale Bauausstellung Hamburg). The building should be finished in 2013.
