Lemminkäinen to take part in a major road project in Lithuania

UAB Lemminkainen Lietuva, a subsidiary of Lemminkäinen Infra Oy, has signed a contract for a major road construction project with the Lithuanian Road Administration. The project involves basic improvement works on the motorway built in 1987 between Vilnius and Klaipeda. The contract is worth some EUR 17 million, with the funding being provided by the EU and the Lithuanian government.

Lemminkainen Lietuva will participate in the project as a partner in a consortium consisting of three construction companies. Lemminkäinen will carry out slightly over one third of the work under the contract.

Lemminkainen Lietuva’s portion of the road project includes the renewal of the asphaltic surfacing on a 14-kilometre stretch of road. The road will also be widened over a section of almost two kilometres. In addition, 20 kilometres of metal rail and 30 kilometres of game fence will be installed. The company’s contract also includes the construction of an underpass and the repair of four bridges.

Over the past ten years, Lemminkäinen Infra Oy has been involved in a range of World Bank/EU funded transport facility projects in the Baltic countries and Ukraine. This spring, the company has started similar road projects in Estonia and Moldova.
