LEMMINKÄINEN AND SKANSKA HAVE SIGNED THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS FOR THE LAST THREE PHASES OF S GROUP'S LOGISTICS CENTRE

The consortium formed by Lemminkäinen and Skanska, Freeway, has signed contracts with the S Group for the construction of the last three phases of the new logistics centre for daily consumer goods. The total value of the signed project contracts on phases 3, 4 and 5 of the logistics centre is approximately EUR 148 million. Of this amount, Lemminkäinen's share is approximately EUR 74 million. The logistics centre will be fully inaugurated in 2018.

Phases 3 and 4 of the project include cold stores for daily consumer goods and phase 5 freezer warehouse.

"The new logistics centre is extremely important to S Group, as it is among the most modern in terms of technology and IT solutions in all of Europe. The new solutions improve the efficiency of daily consumer goods trade and our price competitiveness in the increasingly international market. The centre is also very energy-efficient and eco-friendly. It utilises geothermal heat as heating and cooling energy on a large scale," says Arttu Laine, Executive Vice President at SOK.

"The project is estimated to generate approximately 4,500 man-years directly and indirectly throughout the design and construction work," says Casimir Lindholm, Lemminkäinen's Executive Vice President in charge of Building Construction in Finland. According to him, the first two phases of the project proceeded according to plans.

Located in Bastukärr in Sipoo, the logistics centre's floor area will be approximately 189,000 square metres and volume 3,400,000 cubic metres. The logistics centre will apply for BREEAM environmental classification.

Lemminkäinen and Skanska have equal shares in the Freeway consortium.

Lemminkäinen has previously announced news on the project on 10 February 2014, 26 September 2013 and 22 August 2013.
