YIT TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN ROAD WEATHER AND TRAFFIC CAMERAS IN FINLAND

YIT Kiinteistötekniikka Oy and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment have entered into an agreement for the delivery and installation of road weather and traffic cameras covering the Finnish road network. According to the agreement, YIT will complement the existing camera network and replace old cameras with new, technically more advanced equipment. The new cameras offer traffic centres real-time video monitoring, and the cameras can be controlled remotely. Thanks to the new camera technology, the image quality is also higher.

The agreement is fixed-term and significant in the field of security technology. The value of the agreement is dependent on the amount of installation, maintenance and repair work needed for the camera network.

The agreement expands the long-standing cooperation between YIT and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. YIT is already responsible for the servicing and repair of approximately 500 road weather and traffic cameras nationwide. Under an agreement signed in 2009, YIT is currently implementing a nationwide renewal of the road illumination control system and has assumed responsibility for the maintenance of the control system until 2019.

“We are very pleased that the agreement for annual maintenance and repair services signed a year ago with YIT now includes camera equipment deliveries. Having a service agreement with a reliable partner makes our operations and the development of camera monitoring far easier,” says Jaakko Myllylä, a traffic management expert at the Southeast Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

The road weather and traffic camera network covers the whole of Finland. YIT’s nationwide service network ensures rapid and local maintenance of the cameras.

The road weather cameras serve the maintainers of the road network as well as the users of roads. Image feeds of the road weather cameras can be viewed via the Internet on the Finnish Transport Agency site: http://www2.liikennevirasto.fi/alk/kelikamerat
