New high-quality homes in Niemenranta – YIT launched the construction of a residential apartment building in Tampere
YIT CORPORATION Press release, June 8, 2018, at 09:00 a.m.
YIT did very well in this year’s Universum student survey, climbing to sixth place as the ideal employer according to students in engineering fields. The ranking is an impressive 10 places higher than that of last year.
“We are very proud of and happy with the increased ranking. Educating talented young professionals to work in the construction industry has been a strategic choice for YIT for several years now. Our long-term investments in students, HR development and our diverse career opportunities are reflected in our attractiveness as an employer,” says Timo Piili, Vice President, Recruitment and Resources at YIT.
As a construction-sector employer, YIT is the second-most desirable among students of engineering and the natural sciences.
“We are also very pleased with this ranking. YIT and Lemminkäinen merged at the beginning of February and we are currently unifying our ways of working. The merger will open up many new opportunities for our personnel. Together we will be an even more attractive employer moving forward,” Piili comments.
In the construction industry studies, experience gathered from traineeships is extremely valuable as the theory learned in studies can be applied in practice. This year, YIT will offer traineeships or summer jobs, involving challenging tasks and inspired working communities, to 1,000 youths.
For example, YIT’s largest construction project, the Tripla site located in the Pasila district of Helsinki, is employing a number of students in proportion to its size. This year, as many as 72 summer employees will be working at Tripla.
The YIT Studies programme, an advanced study module in the field of construction, is currently offered at seven universities of applied sciences and one university in Finland.
YIT has also launched the YIT Studies for Business Students programme in cooperation with Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland. The study module aims to introduce the logistics, IT, marketing, communication and language-related skills and business knowledge of business students in the fields of finance and IT to our construction sites.
