YIT’s occupational safety animation won two awards at the World Media Festival organised in Hamburg, Germany on May 6: the animation won the Intermedia Globe Gold award in the Safety series of the Training category, as well as the Grand Award, the second-highest award in the entire competition, as the best training video. A total of 735 entries from 38 countries took part in the World Media Festival competition this year. The evaluation criteria for the entries were creativity, clarity, audiovisual design, impact and, in particular, the extent to which the entry speaks to its target audience.

YIT’s occupational safety animation was produced to support YIT Russia’s occupational safety and prevent the occurrence of serious occupational accidents. The aim was to create a simple visual training video that is independent of the language environment it is used in, with a message that is easily understood and unambiguous. The animation was produced for YIT by the media company Whitepoint Oy in four languages: Russian, Uzbek, Tajiki and English. The animation is used at YIT Russia’s construction sites in the training and orientation of the company’s own employees as well as subcontractors.

“Our target is zero accidents and we do not compromise on safety at work under any conditions. We chose to produce an animated video to ensure that the message is easily understood. The message we want to convey is that we care about everyone who works at our construction sites, regardless of their nationality and position,” says Pauli Neuvonen, Development Manager at YIT.

The World Media Festival is an international media industry competition for corporate videos as well as television, web and Internet productions. The most distant participants in the competition in 2015 came from Japan and Malaysia. The largest clients of the media production companies that entered the competition were the automotive giants Audi and BMW, as well as the media conglomerate Fox.
