YIT to launch the development of the Tikkurila train station area in Vantaa Finland

YIT will begin the work on the construction of a new office and retail centre adjacent to the Tikkurila railway station as well as a complex of three residential buildings to the railway station area. The total value of the project is more than EUR 150 million.

"YIT wishes to invest in all-round development of the area. We have more than 20 years of history as the developer of the Tikkurila railway station district. We are proud to be involved in the continuing creation of a comfortable living environment and functional service and infrastructure centre at Tikkurila," says Division Manager Timo Lehmus from YIT Construction Services Finland.

The new Tikkurila office and retail centre: a window to the world

The Tikkurila office and retail centre, scheduled for completion in 2019, will provide all-round service to both local residents and travellers. Services will include convenience goods and speciality shops, a comprehensive restaurant section, the travel centre with ticket offices and a new local bus terminal as well as a citizen services office for the City of Vantaa.

The centre will be built in several phases, the first of which will be completed late in 2014 together with a three-storey parking garage for 500 vehicles. A gold rating according to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) environmental certification system is being sought for the centre.

The Tikkurila railway station is the third busiest of the trunk line from Helsinki. After the completion of the Ring Railway, Tikkurila will be the primary connection point between long-distance trains and the Helsinki Airport, which will make it the second busiest railway station in Finland.

A competition has been launched to find a name for the Tikkurila office and retail centre. The new name will be announced in January 2013.

New look and new homes to the Tikkurila centre

Tikkurila will experience a remarkable transformation into an atmospheric walking district.

"Next to the city hall there will be a new marketplace, the Tikkurila square and Tikkurila park, which will have a playground, skateboarding and parkour areas and space for a stage. In addition to the bus terminal and the office and retail centre to be built at the railway station, six apartment buildings for 500 people, a church and two parking garages will be built in the immediate area. There will be several construction sites active at the same time until the new, beautiful Tikkurila is completed," says Project Director Heikki Virkkunen of the City of Vantaa.

YIT has been actively involved in the development of new homes and infrastructure in Tikkurila. The construction work for the first residential building, the As. Oy Vantaan Tikkurilanaukio, will begin in October. The ground floor of the buildings will offer great spots for retail premises.

"Tikkurilanaukio has generated plenty of interest, as it will have a central location next to the City Hall and the new market square. The apartments will be right in the middle of services and have a direct elevator connection to the Tikkupark. Two more residential properties will also be built by YIT next to the market square. The construction work for these will begin in 2013," says Division Manager Harri Isoviita from YIT Construction Services Finland.
