YIT TO CONSTRUCT ANOTHER RING RAILWAY STATION IN VANTAA, FINLAND

YIT has been selected to implement the interior contract of the reservation of Vantaa Ruskeasanta railway station, a part of the Ring Railway project in Vantaa, Finland. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 28 million, and it includes the construction of a railway station, pipework, ventilation, and electrical engineering, and the interior of the tunnel section. The construction work for the station, built underground, was started in April and will last for approximately two years.

In addition to Ruskeasanta, YIT is also implementing the Aviapolis Ring Railway station, for which the construction work has already been started. Both stations will be located deep underground, which requires diverse expertise and experience in underground construction.

“YIT has a great deal of experience in demanding route projects, and even now we are implementing projects we can draw experience from to utilise with the Ring Railway. Our project organisation includes both highly experienced and fresh, young experts with a professional, safety-conscious and energetic approach to the job,” says Petri Vuokila, Director of the Stuctural Engineering Unit at YIT Infrastructure Services.

YIT has also implemented previous construction stages for the Ring Railway. YIT excavated the Aviapolis railway tunnels and station and the Ruskeasanta access tunnel.

“For the implementation of the Ruskeasanta station, we will utilise the versatility of the whole of YIT by combining our best knowledge and services for infrastructure and business premises construction and building services,” says Riku Mandelin, Business Division Director for Building System Solutions.

YIT is a significant player in major road and railway projects. YIT has implemented six different contracts in different phases of the West Metro project, being the largest individual contractor. YIT is also involved in both E18 motorway projects that commenced this year; the motorway between Koskenkylä and Kotka and the Hamina Bypass Road.
