LEMMINKÄINEN CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 13 NOVEMBER 2012 AT 1.00 P.M.
LEMMINKÄINEN WINS ELECTRIFICATION CONTRACT FOR VR GROUP'S MAINTENANCE HALLS IN OULU
Lemminkäinen will carry out the electrification of VR-Group Ltd's maintenance halls, to be built in the Oulu depot area. The project covers the construction of a maintenance hall for passenger trains, another for railway engines and rail cars, and a third for diesel engines to ensure their continuous preparedness for duty. Included in the project scope is also an office, storage, recreation room, operations room, cafeteria, premises for maintenance, as well as technical premises. The total value of the electrification project is roughly 2.8 million euros.
With respect to their dimensions, the halls are the first of their kind in Finland. Repairs and maintenance on all types of railway engines and cars can be carried out in the facilities. Lighting will be implemented using LED lights. The choice of lighting was determined by considerations such as savings in energy and maintenance costs, as well as adjustment options in premises with a high ceiling.
Earthworks began in the summer, followed by the construction of the halls' frames and facades, both now underway. Electrification will begin in December 2012, with the site scheduled for completion in November 2013.
