LEMMINKÄINEN WINS OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD IN DENMARK

Lemminkäinen was awarded the best Danish occupational health and safety company within the asphalt industry in 2014. Asfaltindustrien, the Danish asphalt industry association, chooses the winner by gathering information about absences due to accidents in paving companies and by visiting selected paving teams.

Asfaltindustrien selects the Danish occupational health and safety winner in collaboration with 3F, United Federation of Danish Workers. The aim of the award is to raise awareness about occupational health and safety in the asphalt industry and ensure a high level of safety. In order to win, a company must perform well in both the annual accident statistics and the fall campaign, when Asfaltindustrien's occupational health and safety consultant tours around the country, visiting selected asphalt teams and assessing their current occupational safety status. The winner is the company that has the best score when the two parameters are added.

Lemminkäinen employs around 300 employees in Denmark, and had only two absences due to accidents in 2014.

"We are of course very proud of winning this award – but for me the most important thing is that we had so few accidents and nobody was seriously injured. Our goal is zero accidents – so we are not there yet – but we have improved our general safety a lot during the last 5 years and I have to praise all our employees for having safety in high focus," says Claus Terkildsen Lemminkäinen's Country Manager in Denmark.

Asfaltindustrien's consultant Trine Leth Kølby handed the trophy to Changiz Farrahi, responsible for occupational health and safety at Lemminkäinen in Denmark, in a meeting with Lemminkäinen's OSH representatives.
