Lemminkäinen to construct the eastern mouth of the Ring Rail Line´s tunnel section in Vantaa

LEMMINKÄINEN TO CONSTRUCT THE EASTERN MOUTH OF THE RING RAIL LINE'S TUNNEL
SECTION IN VANTAA 

Lemminkäinen Group's Lemminkäinen Infra Oy has been selected to carry out the
construction contract for the eastern mouth of the Ring Rail Line's tunnel
section. The Ring Rail Line will connect the Vantaankoski line to the main
line, and the eastern mouth of its tunnel section will be located in the
Ruskeasanta district of Vantaa. The contract is worth approx. EUR 14 million. 

Lemminkäinen will be able to exploit its broad range of civil engineering
expertise and experience in the contract. The work will include 80,000 m³ of
earth works and ground excavations, 12,000 m² of anchored steel sheet piling,
and 50 metres of tunnel excavation. Some 12,000 m³ of concrete will be used in
the construction of the concrete lining and bridge structures. The site is very
challenging from the geotechnical engineering perspective. At best the bottom
of the excavation will be at a depth of 13 metres, 10 metres below the
groundwater level. 

Construction work will start in December 2009 and the contract will be
completed in March 2012. 

"This contract is the latest in a series of transport infrastructure projects
carried out by Lemminkäinen in the Greater Helsinki Area. The most notable of
these projects have included construction works on the Vuosaari Harbour railway
tunnel and the lead contract for the Western Metro tunnel excavation that began
this autumn," says Petri Kotkansalo, the director responsible for Lemminkäinen
Infra's concrete construction projects.
