Lemminkäinen and Agnico Eagle sign a multi-year construction contract on gold mine deep level tunnel and equipment work

LEMMINKÄINEN AND AGNICO EAGLE SIGN A MULTI-YEAR CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT ON GOLD MINE DEEP LEVEL TUNNEL AND EQUIPMENT WORK

Lemminkäinen and Agnico Eagle Finland Oy have signed an agreement on extending the tunnels of the gold mine in Kittilä, Northern Finland. The main focus of the work will be on deepening the main deposit of the underground mine, and it will reach a depth of almost 1,000 metres. 

The contract includes the construction and reinforcement of the work and transportation tunnels. Lemminkäinen will build approximately four kilometres of new tunnels. The work will begin at the latest in October 2017 and is scheduled for completion in 2019. The contract value is approximately EUR 10 million.  

Kittilä gold mine is the largest gold mine in Europe. It has been operating since 2009, and it has approximately 450 employees and 350 employees working for contractors.
