LEMMINKÄINEN WILL CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT OF THE JÄTKÄSAARI AREA

Lemminkäinen is playing a large role in the development of the Jätkäsaari area in Helsinki. By the year 2016, Lemminkäinen will build four housing cooperatives as a residential property development projects comprising a total of 430 apartments and 38,000 square meters of floor space. The total value of the project will amount to more than EUR 120 million.

Construction work of the first residential property development project began in January 2013 and the work will be completed in the autumn of 2014. As Oy Saukonpaaden Merituuli, Helsinki comprises of two seven-floor apartment blocks. The housing cooperative will house a total of 55 apartments and a 24-car garage. High-quality materials will be used in the apartments, which will also feature saunas and balconies with glazing. The housing cooperative will be linked to a pipe collection system for waste, reducing service traffic in the yard area.

"The construction of the new Jätkäsaari is well under way. A superb location on the sea shore nearby the city centre, great public transport, and basic services planned for the area make this a comfortable and highly functional residential area," states Sami Somero, Director at Lemminkäinen.

The first buildings built by Lemminkäinen in Jätkäsaari have already welcomed their inhabitants. The As Oy Helsingin Kapteeninranta houses a total of 120 apartments, owned by Suomen Vuokrakodit Oy and was completed in the summer of 2012. In addition to this, Lemminkäinen will build two HITAS buildings in the area, one of which was completed in December while the other one will be completed in March.

By the year 2025, Jätkäsaari is assessed to be home to 17,000 people, with another 6,000 working in the area.
