LEMMINKÄINEN WINS A LIFECYCLE PROJECT WORTH 86 MILLION EUROS IN OULU

Oulu City Administration has chosen Lemminkäinen as the service provider for a significant lifecycle project, and the City Council has made a funding decision for the project on 12 March 2012. The project comprises the design of community centre Kastelli to be built in the Kontinkangas district in Oulu, demolishing the buildings on site and the construction of the community centre. The management and maintenance of the building, user services and modernisation investments during the service agreement will be responsibility of the service provider during the 25-year service period. The total value of the project is approximately 86 million euros.

In this demanding project, Lemminkäinen will combine the expertise in its building construction and technical building services.

The Kastelli community centre will have facilities for around 1,500 children and youths. The community centre will house a kindergarten, morning and afternoon care, a comprehensive school, a high school, a senior secondary school for adults, a library, a youth centre, an auditorium and large exercise facilities. The building's total floor area is around 23,000 square metres. Construction work of the Kastelli community centre will begin in the summer of 2012, and it will be inaugurated in August 2014.

"The lifecycle model challenges the traditional construction and maintenance models. This is a long-term partnership and an overall economical solution, suitable for both public and private sector projects", says Jukka Terhonen, Executive Vice President, Building Construction, at Lemminkäinen.

Lemminkäinen is involved in numerous lifecycle projects. These include the four schools and one kindergarten to be built, renovated and maintained for the City of Kuopio, the E18 Lohja–Muurla motorway and several courthouses and police stations around Finland.
