LEMMINKÄINEN WINS THE URHEILUPUISTO EXCAVATION PROJECT FOR WEST METRO

Lemminkäinen has won the excavation project for Urheilupuisto, which will form part of the West Metro line. The project consists of the excavation work of the 160-metre driveway tunnel and the 1.9-kilometre metro tunnel for the Urheilupuisto metro station located between Espoo's Tapiola and Matinkylä. Opencast mining technique will be used at the Urheilupuisto station due to the geotechnical conditions. The total value of the contract is about EUR 14 million.

"The Urheilupuisto metro project is a natural extension to the Ruoholahti contract we carried out earlier and to the Koivusaari excavation project currently in progress. We have been involved in the construction of the metro line since the 1970s," says Risto Kupila, Vice President, Rock Engineering.

Work at Tapiola's Urheilupuisto will begin in January 2012, and project completion is scheduled for September 2013 at the latest, due to the options to be carried out.
