Case: "Hack the living" innovation competition
The construction industry is undergoing a major transition, and this can be seen in the development of housing construction in the direction of a housing business operations operations model. One consequence of this development is increasing demand for services that make everyday life easier and more convenient.
YIT launched the Hack the Living innovation competition in 2017 to find new business models, services, service concepts, products and digital solutions to make everyday life and housing easier.
The competition was open to teams of 2–3 members – innovators, service designers, software designers, and growing companies. The competition drew 64 entries, which is the second-largest amount in the history of the Industryhack. Of these, 8 teams were selected to get a closer view of YIT’s operations. They also participated in the two-day hackathon at the end of January.
