Lahti Travel Center
Lahti Travel Centre
The Lahti Travel Centre brought different modes of transport together in one place, when the operations of the Lahti bus station were transferred to the new travel centre connected to the train station at the start of 2016. The project included the construction of the terminal structure for long-distance buses, modifications to roads and light traffic lanes, elevator and stair shafts, local bus stops, connecting parking places and a bicycle parking area.
The project was carried out according to a light version of the alliance model, in which the parties were the City of Lahti (commissioner), YIT Infrastructure Services (contractor) and Sito Oy (designer). The benefits of the alliance could clearly be seen. The project was demanding, and the costs could be kept lower than with any other model.
The Lahti Travel Centre is the second most active Matkahuolto facility after the Kamppi terminal in Helsinki.
