YIT and Lidl build a mini-mall in Tammisto, Vantaa

YIT and Lidl are building a mini-mall measuring approximately 1,100 m² next to the Lidl store in Tammisto, Vantaa. The construction of this site was started up in June 2009 and is slated for completion by the end of the year. Lidl will be the owner of the mini-mall.

YIT is developing mini-malls next to Lidl stores around Finland. About 20 will be built by 2012. Their construction has been kicked off with the Tammisto site. The size of the mini-malls will range from 600 m² to 1,300 m².

The mini-malls will be located close to residential areas, either in good commercial locations next to traffic routes or in existing larger commercial centres.

YIT developed its shopping centre concept to serve the residents of close-by areas. The service range of each mall is tailored to meet the needs of local residents. Malls save time spent on taking care of daily business and substantially reduce the number of shopping trips. Rounding out existing commercial sites with mini-malls makes it possible to improve the service offering of an area with little need for municipal investments. Nationwide, the project will create 350-450 new retail and service jobs.

The Tammi mini-mall will bolster the range of daily services available in Tammisto, Vantaa. Products and services will be provided by a video rental shop, lunch restaurant, pizzeria, pet store, cafe/bakery as well as clothing, home electronics and other outlets.

Leea Markkula-Heilamo, business development director of the City of Vantaa, is very satisfied by the new mini-mall.

“This mini-mall will nicely round out the range of commercial services available locally to the residents of Tammisto, which is part of Aviapolis,” says Markkula-Heilamo.

The construction of the next mini-malls will begin in Tiiriö in Hämeenlinna and in Tuusula in the summer of 2009. Following these will be mini-malls in Mäntsälä, Heinola, Kaarina and Pirkkala in the autumn.
